Where their story unfolds
1Where they appear
2Jesus before Pilate
In the morning the chief priests and the council bound Jesus and handed him over to Pilate, who asked whether he was the King of the Jews. Stirred up by the chief priests, the crowd asked for Barabbas to be released instead. Pilate released Barabbas, had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified.
Jesus before Herod
Learning that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, Pilate sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem. Herod questioned him at length, but Jesus gave no answers while the chief priests and scribes accused him. Herod and his soldiers mocked him and sent him back to Pilate, and that day Herod and Pilate became friends.
