What happened here
3The ascension in Luke’s Gospel
Jesus led the disciples out as far as Bethany, lifted up his hands and blessed them, and while blessing them withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. They worshiped him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising God.
Luke says Jesus led them out as far as Bethany (Luke 24:50) but does not give the exact spot. Acts tells the ascension separately and names the mountain called Olivet (Acts 1:9–12).
Lazarus raised
Lazarus of Bethany had been in the tomb four days when Jesus arrived. Jesus had the stone taken away and called him out, and the dead man came out still bound in burial wrappings.
Anointed at Bethany
Six days before the Passover, at a supper in Bethany, Mary poured costly ointment on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. Mark describes an anointing at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper.
